Efficacy of silver citrate (Bacsan 0.24 sl) on the control of erwinia bacterial disease (Erwinia chrysanthemi) in MD-2 pineapple.
Erwinia chrysantemi is the causal agent of an occasional disease of MD-2 pineapple, which can attack the crop from 4 months after planting until forcing and even infect fruit if the conditions are favorable. Erwinia is an anaerobic bacterium and can cause losses from 1% to 50% of the plantation if not handled correctly. This pathogen that survives in crop residues, can cause very high production costs in its control, when an integrated crop management is not carried out.
The alternatives for integrated management of this disease are based on a series of measures that involve: quarantine of the affected area, vector control, suspension of fertilizer and herbicide applications, and the application of good efficacy bactericidal products such as Silver citrate or Copper sulphate pentahydrate. In this work, the biological efficacy of the Bacsan product was evaluated in a pineapple plantation with a high incidence of Erwinia and compared with a commercial control.
Bacsan's performance was the same as that of the commercial control, so it is concluded that it is a high potential alternative to contribute to the proper management of this pathogen in the cultivation of MD-2 pineapple.
